Textiles for wearing, using and loving.

 Handmade here in Hobart/nipaluna.

I make it, slowly but surely!

Hello I’m Jo and welcome to in various states!

Based in Hobart/nipaluna and creating textile pieces since 2015, sometimes I feel like the epitome of the slow fashion style!  My work has evolved over the years from a focus on homewares and is now mainly concentrated on creating garments. Working in small collections that consist of one-off pieces which have been hand printed or embellished with motifs in some form.

As a maker I prefer to work with single pieces of fabric to create my main designs which are simple outlines and forms, cut on the generous side. I use natural fabrics, some of which are milled here in Australia or have healthy organic credentials. I really love to explore different types of fabric and materials to produce small quantities. As an independent maker, I get to explore an eclectic range of fabrics such as washi paper linen, and eucalyptus linen, hand milled linens made in Victoria, organic cotton gauze and vintage Japanese fabrics.

I love to dye or print by hand and sometimes both before each piece of fabric is cut.  Because block printing can be placed in different areas of the garment it gives creative freedom and offers a variety of applications. While some of the garments may be constructed in the same style, their uniqueness lies in how they are finished, and the type of fabrics used.

One of my main goals is to use as much of the fabric as possible. My designs are created to use as much of the fabric as I can. The offcuts left are turned to make other items such as purses, pockets or lavender bags.
