I make it. Slowly but surely!

Hello, Iā€™m Jo and welcome to in various states!

Based in Hobart/nipaluna and creating textile pieces since 2015, sometimes I feel like the epitome of the slow fashion style!  My work has evolved over the years from purely hand printed and dyed, into a new direction during 2024 with digitising some of my prints. While I will continue to make handprinted pieces, being able to have my designs printed onto natural fabrics in Melbourne is a treat.

As a maker I prefer to work with single pieces of fabric to create my main designs which are simple outlines and forms, cut on the generous side. As an independent maker, I like to use natural fabrics, deadstock and occasionally repurposing fabric, if it sings to me!

I love to dye or print by hand and sometimes both before each piece of fabric is cut.  Because block printing can be placed in different areas of the garment it gives creative freedom and offers a variety of applications. While some of the garments may be constructed in the same styles, their uniqueness lies in how they are finished, and the type of fabrics used.

One of my main goals is to use as much of the fabric as possible. My designs are created to use as much of the fabric as I can. The offcuts left are turned to make other items such as purses, pockets or lovely smelly lavender bags.
